Quilt finally?

Ok at least 4 years ago, I was at Joann's and they had this quilt block of the month thing going on. I bought the set, all 12 months, the setting kit and even the little add ons. I put it in my quilting case and basically there it has sat. Well, my mom is here. (background: She is a professional seamstress for about 30 years, drapes, wedding dresses, valances, cornices bedspreads you get the idea.) She is 65ish. She works at least 2 jobs. She is here for two weeks and is bored. She asked what the plan was for today. Still not being able to breathe well, the plan is for me to lay around and watch my minions work. But I added some action for her. Birthday cards and shower invites. Well then what did I need her machine for? I want to make a bed skirt and some pillows. She gave me oh there is two hours worth of work look. Stupid me.... I drag out the quilt and the drape fixing in the bedroom and canopy I secretly want. Now we are off to Joann's for velcro and thread and how do I live with out all this?
OHHHH and the "little machine I got for 20 dollars at a garage sale" IS A VIKING! With lots of stitches etc. I guess if your usual sewing machine has a motor that could power a 747 a Viking is small potatoes but to those of us that have to search for a needle and thread and then can't sew to save their life it is a big deal. (side note: Apologies to those at church that may have gotten a eyeful of my song leading husbands thigh. That would be his rip my pants everyday disease coupled with my I-should-have-listened-when-she-tried-to-teach-me sydrome.)
Anyhoo-- Here are pics of the soon to be quilt. And some befores of the drapes (you should have seen the eye rolling when she saw that not only are they sheets but I did not sew the sides just ripped them and hid the edge.)
